Takeaways From The El Classico

THE BATTLE OF THE GIANTS

EL CLASSICO

As Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 2-1 on Sunday night at Spotify Camp Nou, the Catalan giants secured their third straight El Classico victory.

In their road match, Vinicius Jr. forced a mistake from Ronald Araujo to give his team the lead. Barcelona, though, was able to pull even just before halftime thanks to Sergi Roberto's persistent raids.

Franck Kessie's well-executed goal gave the hosts a late lead and a well-deserved victory in the end. With a dominating twelve-point advantage, it moves them significantly closer to clinching the La Liga championship with now the Catalan Giants moving 12 points clear at the top.

Major takeaways from the match:

1)Xavi’s Reign continues:

In many prior Classicos, Xavi's playing ability turned out to be a nightmare for Real Madrid players. He is doing it once more right now, this time as a manager.

The storied Spanish midfielder continues to score stunning goals versus Madrid, leading Barcelona to four of six victories.

With last night's triumph, Barcelona won their third straight Clasico, making Xavi the first manager since Pep Guardiola in 2011 to win three Clasicos in a calendar year.

2)Frenkie de Jong's another Clasico masterclass

With Xavi, De Jong has developed into one of the key players for Barcelona.

De Jong continues to talk on the field unaffected by the ongoing rumours about his future, and last night's display was the best of the season.

The Netherlands midfielder was undoubtedly one of the greatest players on the field and seldom made a mistake, even outplaying seasoned pros Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

Lionel Messi was the king of the Clasicos, and Sergi Roberto, who scored, also has a stellar record versus Real Madrid.

De Jong loves competing against Los Blancos and is consistently viewed at his best during the Clasicos.

In light of yesterday night's performance, Xavi recently referred to the Dutchman as one of the top midfielders in the world.

3)Barcelona’s performance throughout the match

Credit has to be given to Barcelona’s performance. As throughout the match they were the dominant side out of the two and even when Barcelona conceived Asensio’s goal which was later given as offside the never give up mentality of the Barcelona players was to be credited. The players gave it their all until the final whistle and therefore they were successful in achieving a late but beautiful victory at the Spotify Camp Nou

Heading into the international break The Catalan Giants are now 12 points ahead at the top and as their manager Xavi said , “ We have everything to lose now”.
